Today, 10/9/08, I receive a Parents Magazine in the mail addressed to my name and address. I have not subscribed to Parents Magazine (in fact I do not and have not in years subscribe to any magazines). Furthermore, I am not a parent and at my age not likely to become one. So I call Parents to see why they are sending me a magazine. I explain that I have not subscribed to the magazine.
I am informed that the subscription is though http://valuemags.com I told the CSR at Parents that I have never heard of them, that I have not ordered anything through them etc. She said she would suspend my order. Hopefully I will not receive a bill (or that will also be a battle).
I try to contact valuemags but am unsuccessful. I do an internet search and see many problems with them. One such problem is that they buy names and addresses and send people magazines that have never ordered from them (and some like me who have never even heard of them). One website listed as selling to them was allposters.com. I have never been there or ordered from there so that can't be it in my case.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB, case # 94203574. I will more than likely end up filing cases with the FTC and the Attorney Generals offices of both states.
I am worried that this could end up effecting my credit for a bit as I have no intention of paying for this.
This must be illegal! If it isn't it should be!
