I just read the report entitled "Rock Tops, Inc. Contract Scams - BEWARE of dishonesty Suwanee Georgia". This report describes EXACTLY what we just encountered with Rock Tops.
We also entered into an agreement with Rock Tops in summer of after seeing a very entising TV commercial promoting their countertops at incredibly low prices. We estimated we could get counter tops for about $1800, based on the advertisement. Upon visiting the location, they had very nice countertops available, but only a few offered at the prices they advertised.
Although the one we liked the most was not at the sale price, we bought a similar one that was on sale. Half of the sale price was due upon signing. The contract was written with the dimensions of our kitchen exactly as we were told to measure it. When the Rep came out to take final measurements, they priced it 27 sq. Ft. Higher than the quote that was originally written. This was nearly 40% higher than our original price and the balance was due upon them taking the measurements!
Once they had all our money, their true character started to show. The installation was scheduled about 8 weeks after our visit to the store. This was 3-4 weeks later than they promised at the beginning. The week we were scheduled for install, I called to find out when they would be coming only to find out the order was damaged in shipping. Nobody even bothered to call to let us know the install would not be done that week. Another 6-8 weeks would be needed to perform the install, but we were promised by Mike "I'll take care of you".
Shortly before the next installation date, they called to confirm they would be coming at 1pm on a Monday. They showed up at 4pm instead and informed me that we were supposed to have all the old countertops removed, electrical and water unhooked and would also be resposible for disposing of the old countertops. They would do it, of course, but it would cost several hundred more dollars to do so.
Even though this caused a major inconvenience, we called a Contractor friend that agreed to come over at 5pm (just one hour later) to remove the old countertops, so they could go ahead with the installation. The team they had allocated, said they would come back later that evening once the countertops were removed. They called and left a message around 6:30pm, but never came back that night.
The next morning, we called to find out what the plan was to install our countertops and they said the earliest they had available was that Friday. Therefore, we will have to go this whole week without countertops in our kitchen.
As the other customer wrote about Rock Tops, I strongly recommend not doing business with this company. They overpromise and underdeliver at every turn. You think you're getting one thing and before you know it your price, delivery, service is something much different. I almost forgot, Mike did "Take care of us" like he said. He told us we would be receiving a free cutting board for our troubles", a $50 value! Yippee! We haven't gotten it yet, but I can hardly wait!
