A salesman for SkyCom came to my door to sell me Direct TV service yesterday. He had a great offer, too good to pass up. He stated that this offer was only being made available for my area where I live because of the cable companies and so forth. He said that I would get 350 channels, all the sports channels, all the XM radio channels, a free DVR with free DVR service for life, free HD TV service for life for 44.99 and my price would never go up. Because of a issue with the cable companies and problems, they were offering us this deal. And then he said, if you want, after a year your price could go up 18.00, but you would get another DVR with free DVR service for life or 3 Movie channels. Or is I decided I didnt want another DVR or any Movie channels then my price would not go up at all. He talked alot and I listened. He didnt mention a 2 year contract, I did ask about that, my mom has direct TV so I know it comes with a contract. While we were talking another salesman came up to us and he was trying to show me a price sheet and my salesman got off his phone so we could continue. So I signed up, he called it in and Direct TV called me back for the information they needed to set up a account.
Later on around 8 pm. I was outside sitting with my neighbors who also signed up and we were talking about and guess what, the other salesman, who interupted us came by and he wanted to know what our salesman told us. He was curious because that guy gets alot of sales. We told him. And guess what, there is not 350 channels, there is only 150 in that package, the DVR service is not free, the HD TV service is not free, and the price will go up after a year no matter what. You will not get a second DVR free, you will not get the movie channels... They will always be extra on top of the price increase. The orignal salesman his name was something like Demetris (not sure, but something like that) and the other guy that came along was Courtney. After Courtney was done talking to us, he handed my neighbor a business card, and said he is not supposed to have business cards with Direct TV on them because he works for SkyCom and that is infringement, so please dont tell anybody. He didnt want us to report this.
Luckily, I was able cancel the order because it was not installed yet. But when I called Direct TV, the lady I talked to seemed like she really didnt care what I had to say. I said it 3 times what happened and she did not say one word about it. She just cancelled the order and said anything else I can do for you.
This makes me believe that Direct TV is telling SkyCom to lie to get sales, or if Direct TV knows this and they just dont care. They just need to get the contract, then there is nothing else they can do. I am glad the guy came by to see what was going on. But he said he knew that salesman had to be shaddy, but he is just as shaddy as the other guy, walking around with Direct TV business cards and he doesnt even work for them.
