We currently decided to try to switch electricity providers to save money as our current provider's pkw prices where outrageous. After a long drawn out search for the right fit we decided to go with amigo energy. We felt that what they had to offer was exactly what we where looking for. Well, let me begin by saying that our home is on the same land as another home. There are 2 meters on the property. For 911 purposes our home has a seperate address than the actual land.
Anyways, I went on line to make the switch where I filled out the form that only asked for MY physical address etc. When my address was sent to my current provider they did not show my address in their system. Which to me should have thrown up a red flag in which we should have been contacted to sort this out. If this had happened the problem would have been nipped in the bud ASAP.
Anyways I was told by a customer service rep with amigo that when my address did not show up with a valid ESI # a 1 was placed infront of my address (which they are now saying I put in while filling out my info on line and have proof that I did not such as copies of emails showing my correct address as what they received) which generated someone elses ESI #. An account was set up in our name for someone elses meter (someone who lives down the road from us?) So my current provider has charged us for our usage... And amigo is charging us for someone elses and insists that it was our mistake (even though we have proof that it was not!) and we have to pay for someone elses electricity usage.
We contacted both amigo and First Choice or current provider and First Choice has confirmed that the ESI# that they are chargeing us for is not ours but someone that lives down the road. We do not feel as thow this bill is our responsibility but amigo energy will not hear it. They said that we are responsible for the bill and that was that. Then where kind enough to hang up on us and refuse to talk to us any further. We are at a loss as to what to do at this time.
If anyone can offer any advise or have a similar story to tell please let me know. I have never heard of such a scam before in my life and have no clue how legally they can get away with this? I am in the process of filing a complaint to the Texas Utility Commission. Hopefully this will do some good?
