Had information on my dog Havok and still adopted him out without notifying my family

I went into Lenawee Humane Society to see if someone had turned in my lost dog, this was on August 2nd I signed my name in and the reason for my visit (lost dog). My son and I checked to see if Havok was there. He was not. L left Havok's picture and information on their door for lost pets, and asked if they had a list of animal shelters in the Toledo area, she said no we just have Michigan shelters I told her no thank you I took that off of the internet. She than asked whom I am guessing was the former manager about it and all they gave me was a number for a Toledo spay and neuter clinic.

I called at least 3 times within the last 2 weeks; since my visit to Lenawee, I was told once no strays were brought in, I was told the other two times that I called that no dog fit that description. As a matter of fact I just called last week, to see if my dog had been turned in and they said no dog fit that description but actually there was a dog there that fit Havok, s description almost perfectly, although not Havok she was a female and only 1, Havok was 6. We had him since he was a puppy. He is a boxer/shepherd mix and loves everyone.

Anyway this past Saturday, August 16, my son received a call that they had our dog for a couple of days and turned him into Lenawee. We had hung Lost Dog signs all around the area of our home.

So I arrived at Lenawee on Saturday to see if they had my dog, I signed in and went to the back to make sure Havok was not there he wasn't. Again the woman at the counter said no dogs were brought in, I told her we received a phone call that my dog was brought in, explained to her again about my situation and showed her my Lost dog poster of Havok she said she would go and get Rachel.

I looked at the door where I had hung my Havok's picture two weeks before and it was gone, it was exactly two weeks to the day that I went into Lenawee County Humane Society.

I had a copy of his Lost poster in my hand and Rachel must have recognized me from the previous weeks, because when she seen me she stopped in her tracks. I showed her a picture of Havok that I had in my hand and she immediately recognized him as a dog they adopted out, she said I will go check but I remember that dog he was adopted out. She went into another area and brought out another woman with her, whom I am guessing was the director of the facility.

She told me they adopted my dog out and there is nothing I nor they can do about it now. Michigan Law only requires they hold onto a stray animal for 3 days. They said they didn't have a lost dog report on Havok, but I would not have gone in there and left Havok's picture and information on their door and not filed a Lost dog report, since I filed one in all the animal shelters that were close to us. And I also called them on a monday when they are closed and left Havok's information on their voice mail

Very defensively Rachel said I checked the lost book, I said I also left his picture on the door. Again the Director said I am sorry she didn't recognize the dog's picture on the door, it was an Unfortunate mistake, but there is nothing they can do about it, legally my dog belongs to someone else now.

I asked her to please call the people they gave my dog to and get him back for me. She said no she would not do that it is an unfortunate mistake but nothing can be done. I said they have had my dog for a week at the most, I had my dog for 6 years she still would not call them.

I told her I am sure if they are deceit people like you say they are, they would be more than willing to give me my dog back, I know I would if I was aware of the mistake you made. She said No she will not do that.

I have since found out that legally they are to hold a stray for 4 days before adopting them out. So that means that Havok was brought in the week of August 4th, they are closed on Sunday and Mondays so Havok must have been brought in sometime between the 5th and the 9th, the week immediately following my initial visit and they did not call me.

I had already left Havok's picture on their door and left his information and had called at least once that first week and they said they didn't have him. Our pet must have been adopted out immediately after his 3 days according to Lenawee County Humane Society, or he was just adopted out this past week. But they never try to contact me or my family.
