I found an injured pup. (hit by car) and called the Memphis Humane Society. This is what I thought I was supposed to do. Wrong! The Memphis Humane Society is not taking in any animals. They are up to capacity. They were up to capacity last week when we found the pup. Have they not adopted any animals out? We have been taking the pup the the Veterinarian. We do not want the pup. We should not have to take the pup. The Humane Society has paid officials and employees. It is their job to take the animal and do something. They have told me that it is my responsibility to go to Petfinders.com and try to find it a home. Why does the Humane Society get to ask for donations if we have to do the work and pay the vet bills? They have PAID OFFICIALS. It is their JOB! They asked if I would like to donate some money or a special brand of dog food to help. I'm doing their job now. How much more help do they want?
We found a solution to the problem. We called the Memphis Police. They have informed us that it is NOT against the law to put the injured animal in a box. Make it comfortable. Leave it at the front door to the Humane Society and run like heck. It is a shame that I have to make them do their JOB. Remember. Someone is getting paid there. It is not all volunteers. It IS someones job to help.
