I went through a checkout line during a very busy time. I had a total of 4 items... 2 crowns of broccoli, 1 zucchini, 2 individual mushrooms and 1 loaf of bread. I noticed as the checker weighed the 2 mushrooms (at $3.99/lb) that the scale weighed it at. 63 lbs equaling $2.51. I didn't think anything right away, but then asked the checker to weigh them again.
It weighed the same. I told her that can't be right and she said "it shows right here". I paid $7.38 for those few items. I went back to the produce department and put the mushrooms on the scale there and it came to less than. 25 lbs. I went to the office window and explained what happened to me and she took my produce and went to weigh it on the same checker scale and it came out the same.
She got on the phone and spoke with a manager or someone and from what I can tell from the one-way conversation, the person on the other end had known the scale was defective yet allowed the line to stay open. The girl on my end was saying, "why did they open it". Who knows how many people had gone through that line and was ripped off on all weighed items. The checker had a blaise` attitude about it and apparently the management had a pretty lax attitude also.
The girl in the window that helped me seemed to be the only one concerned yet there was no leadership to be found. She returned the cost of the weighed items for my inconvenience and did close the line, but allowed the remaining people to check through. The scale overweighed my items to the tune of almost $4.00.
