Lied & cheated Rip-off took over previous provider's contract with me-left with no choices

Alltel is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I signed my original contract with another company, Centurytel, that morphed into Alltel. Before I signed this contract the sales person assured me that if the plan I had chosen proved to be more minutes than I actually used, I could switch down to a plan with fewer minutes. I never had to put this promise to the test as the 300 minutes I had each month were enough for my needs, that is, until Alltel took over.

The first kicker was the bill I got that said that I was 180 minutes over my plan. Now I have been a few minutes over in the past (I mean like 10 or 20 in the previous 12 month period), but never like that.instead of my usual $54 bill, I had one for $92. The customer service person did nothing more than punch up the record that showed how many calls I supposedly made and said if I wanted more detail I would have to call the customer service number on the bill to request this.

How long would this take? She did not know... Will my phone be shut off while this is being disputed? Maybe if you don't pay the total on the bill. So I paid the bill and made the godawful mistake of asking about plans with more minutes (just in case the fault was mine in using too many minutes).

The next level from the one I had offered 700 minutes, more than I need at a price ($79.99) about twice as much as my previous plan ($39.99). I was hesitant about changing to a more expensive plan but the $92 dollar bill was still fresh in my head and the sales person said that I could always change back if the new minutes didn't work for me. I got the first bill after this change and imagine my surprise when it was for $145. With only 2 days left in the billing cycle (it runs from the 15th of one month to the 14th of the next) on the day I changed plans, - they had went back and charged the new plan rate for the entire billing period. Plus I had to pay for the following month.

So upon receiving this bill, I went out to change my plan back to the old $39.99 plan only to be told that "our calling plans are not Centurytel's plans and we don't allow changes like that". NO ONE gave me that information when I changed my plan or I never would have considered doing so. I am concerned about the consequences of breaking my contract, but the contract I made was with understandings that are apparently no longer valid with the new company. Once again, I have never dealt with a company as low and dirty as this and I hope i never do again (but wherever am I going to get a new phone with an HONEST company?)
