I had a dogs hips X-Rayed for (OFA) Orthopedic Foundation for Animals Certification. Let me make this clear that I am not upset at this vet because this dogs hips turned out to be dysplasic. No, I am upset that the vet could not identify a medical problem this severe right in front of her face. She said, "hips look good to me, and I would be shocked if they did not pass." Well, the OFA had three board certified radiologists look at the X-Rays and all three radiologist came to the very same conclusion.
All three stated that there was "well defined radiographic evidence of dysplastic changes of the hip joints, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease, subluxation, remodeling of femoral head/neck, and shallow acetabula."
I am not a vet, so I don't know what all that means, but the OFA tells me on the phone that there is clearly hip dysplasia and arthritis in this dogs hip joints, and the animal is one step away from having severe hip dysplasia. So, I am forced to conclude that this Vet is incompetent because she cannot spot this on an X-Ray. I personaly will not ever be returning here.
