I began looking for addition to my family. I spoke with Karen Ellenbach several times on the phone after seeing their add in the paper. I spoke with her throughly about hips and health of dogs at her site. She assured me all dogs are healthy with no previous problems or complaints. I then made my trip to IA.
When arriving Karen had 2 puppies in a playpen in her garage. I again spoke to her about health and hips. She stated again that they have had no problems and have world class dogs on site and stated they have been in business almost 40 years. I explained to her that we would like an addition to family. She stated she enjoys breeding and have had many satisfied customer. I purchased a puppy on Nov. 7th.
When arriving home I purchased same food given at Ellenbach's home and continued the puppies usuall diet. On August 15th Harley began limping and holding right foot up. My children asked what is wrong with him. I thought Harley may have pulled a muscle. After two and half days my son witnessed him fall off of his feet for no apparent reason. I immediately called the vet and took him in the same day. According to my vet and X-rays Harley has very bad hips. According to the vet hip dysplasia is hereditary and has been a problem with Harley more than likely since birth. For a dog of his age hips should be at 90%. Harley's are at 5%. He cannot forgo surgery until fully grown at 18 months. Harley is now 12 months old. Surgery will cost around $9,000. I don't know what to do. I don't want him to suffer. I will take it day for day right now.
I have tried to contact Jim or Karen for several days now and have left many messages stating it is VERY important I speak to them about a dog I have purchased and still have not received a call in return. Who do I call next?
After having several days to do nothing but think, I wonder why they will not return my calls, this is my family. I don't want to put my baby to sleep. I will continue to try and reach Jim and Karen and will also contact an attorney. What a toll on emotions for everyone in my home! What a horrible experience.
