Fake! Two email confirmations and a phone call? Really?

I sent in my resume to TGBG, Inc cause, well, frankly I was a bit desperate. I have an art degree, and in this town, people just smile and think that's cute. So I was looking for some way to build up my skills and experience in order to convince people that I am serious about cracking into the business world. Ah, what juicy bait TGBC was, they didn't have too many ads on CareerBuilder.com, which is always a warning to me that the company is a fake. I looked at their website, and it was really well designed, which takes a bit of money to pull off. They were working with Verizon. Ok, cool, big company, big companies don't get involved with scams like this, what would be the point?

Ugh, right. Well, about 2 or 3 hours after sending my resume off, sure enough, there's the phone call.'Huh, ok, ' I think to myself, 'my resume isn't stellar, I'm very young with very little experience, why are you calling me so quickly?' I chat on the phone for a bit with Nellie, she's young, bubbly, and enthusiastic. Here's the thing that should have turned _her_ off, I explained to her that I'm looking to gain experience in the for-profit world so in a couple of years I can take that experience and apply it to the non-profit world. I said this because I knew that if TGBG were legitimate, she shouldn't have been calling me already, and that no respectable company wants to hear that their employee will be using them.

At this point she kind of stopped, sputtered for a bit, and said, "well, we're looking for people to grow our company and possibly become owners of their own branch here in the area. Is this something you might be interested in?" "Sure, " I tell her. So we set up an interview for the next day.

Then I get two identical emails confirming our appointment. This could have been a mistake on her part, I don't know, but then I get a call from her the day of the interview (today) to confirm the interview time, and to make sure I had received her emails.'What? Of course I had, don't you have a bunch of people that you're receiving resumes from? It's not your responsibility to make sure I show up, unless it's that bad that people are disappearing?'

I want to thank the kind woman who reported The Global Business Group, Inc. Earlier today explaining that this was a pyramid scheme. Hers was the only report negative comment I was able to find online. She saved me a two-hour, one-way bus/Metro ride. When I called to ask Nellie a bit more about the job flat out asking if this was a door-to-door salesman gig, she replied, "well, we do 'business-to-business.'"

"Ok, but what exactly does that mean?"

"Well, we go to different companies and interact with them directly."

"Right... I'm going to have to cancel the interview."

She sounded disappointed but not surprised, which was the biggest clue right there.
