I went to Bergstroms and wanted to purchase a baby crib. I noticed one called the Gia Sorelle for $297 Special with a tag that had NEW IN BOX. I went upstairs to purchase the crib and the representative told us that they could give me a raincheck but the price would be $458. I asked how can you charge that if it clearly states $297 new in box but doesn't say limited quantity (I wish I could upload the picture of the sticker price). The representative (who was actually very nice) said she couldn't help and referred me to the manager.
The manager then referred me to customer service, which I called and was then informed that the he would talk with the owner.
Nevertheless the owner called me and I calmly asked that I wanted to purchase the crib for the advertised price. He said that was out of the question (which was odd because they were willing to give me a raincheck for the exact crib). I then asked if he would give me a comparable discount on a similar crib, which he said was out of the question.
I could tell he was very frustrated and became so upset he then yelled at me never to come to his store again and that he had two attorneys in his family. At that point I realized that it was going to be nearly impossible to solve on the phone and that he was already assuming that I wouldn't take him to court. Unfortunately, most people don't think court is worth the hassle.
Basically, I think it is unfair business practices to offer a sale price and then not honor that sales price. They were more than happy to sell me one for $458 but not for the advertised price. Had he treated me with a shred of respect without yelling at me and offer a simple discount on a comparable crib for my inconvenience, I probably would've let the matter drop - but that would've been to hard to do given his ego.
