False Advertising Lied too Betrayed Used

New Market Careers is an agency that promises to assist you in finding a job, new career or placement on a higher scale.

First you are enticed by their ad and their website. Then you call them for an appointment but prior to that you send or fax your resume to the office for their review.

New Market Careers is owned and operated by Sue and Bruce Renolds.

At the first appointment Sue goes on and on about how marketable you are and what they can do for you in today's job market. She tells you we can help you with the interviewing process and she knows she could assist in finding the right position for you. Also asking a lot of personal questions about your likes, dislikes, hobbies and would children come into play with a job hunt.

Followed by, I would like to set up another appointment to meet your husband. I think it's to meet both of you together and she urges you to call to get this next meeting set up right away. Very pushy. She said she likes to see if couples are on the same page with the career path and she likes to meet people because what they do is by word of mouth.

With her urgance, I called my husband and we set up another office visit with Sue Reynolds. This time she went on and on telling my husband how she could help us and how wonderful and marketable I am.

Then the hammer was dropped. She pulled out a contrct from the drawer and said she was leaving the room and wanted us both to read the contract, then discuss.

To my surprise, for her to blow smoke, it requires $5,000. She also wants your credit card on file so there is no error in her getting her money.

My husband and I both agreed that when you are not working that this is a substantial amount of money.

Sue re-entered her office and tries to push the issue and urges how we should get started. She must have seen the look on both of our faces knowing that this was a lot of money for us.

She went on by saying, we have another program for $3,000 and not to worry, she could take payments.

I think from sheer mental exhaustion we agreed and gave her a deposit of $1,000.

The entire time I felt really overwhelmed and pushed into this. It was intimidating.

Then she set up an appointment for me to meet with her partner/husband to review and go over my resume.

The first time I met with Bruce I knew immediately that something was not right. It's difficult to go over facts and such if someone is not feeling well. I asked him if was feeling alright. The entire hour I was with him we discussed his Prostate Cancer and how his back was hurting and his intense hot flashes from the chemo.

A second appointment was made and when I went in we got around the resume for a bit but I could tell he was still in pain. I'm as empathetic as the next but I felt very uncomfortable with the situation.

We ended up getting some thoughts out and he said he would revise my resume and get back to me.

Over a month later, really needing to find a job with a revamped resume I called to see what was going on. Bruce said he was still working on it but his cancer came out of remission and it would be just a little longer for my resume.

I did not have an issue with that so much as that Sue wanted another payment of $1000.00 for their service. I still felt nothing was accomplished or done. I did not have a resume in hand and our visits were bleak in regards to business.

I told her I did not feel comfortable with that and she said she would have Bruce get the resume to me soon. Another week went by and I finally received the resume for review via email. Made a few changes and agreed upon it.

Sue wanted the second payment of $1000.00 and I told her I didn't feel right about that. I told her if anything I should get a refund for how long the resume took.

She said for the office visits alone they were still owed by me for all their time and hard work. Being the person I am I did not have the heart to tell her my office visits with her husband were about his Cancer. Not Business.

At this time I just wanted to settle for the flat resume fee of $300.00 and get a refund back for the rest. She fought me on this and I told her I no longer wanted to do business with them. Sue still thought I owed them money.

I find it shocking that when you need money the most they try to drain your wallet dry.

I reported them to the BBB. I think people should know this and be aware.
