Sends Wedding Ring For Polishing - Ring Mysteriously Gets Hyjacked

Bought wedding rings from Kay's in Dec. 2005 - husband and I renewed wedding vows for 10th anniversay in Jan.

Took my ring in on July 3rd 2008 for regular warranty demanded cleaning (which is done faithfully). The clerk and manager on duty state that the ring needs a Rhodium Polishing because it is very dirrty and has normal "wear n tear" scrathes - they say "The ring will come back brand new" - HA - I did not know that those words would become a paradox with Kay's.

On July 10th Lee - the manager at the store where I took the rings (Corona, Ca - Dos Lagos Center) called and said, "Yes Ms. Cummings, we have your ring hereeeeee"... Stretched out that "e" in here to long - I stated, "my ring is there butttttt???", he said, "We have a new ring here"... I asked back, 'What do you mean a "new" ring - he then proceeded to tell me the ring was lost, but that they had an identical ring there that was "all nice and sparkly". I asked "How did it get lost", I was then told that it really wasn't lost, it was stolen by a UPS worker. "I was shocked and asked how this all happened. He went onto explain that it was shipped out with four other wedding rings (no one told me it was getting shipped anywhere) and the box was broken into. Needless to say, I was heartbroken.

To rap this segment up - because there will be more - the corporate office is telling me after their investigation that the store was wrong in how they told me, but a "replica" of the ring is there and it's only worth the $1754 that I paid for it nearly 3 years ago because I signed the release paper that said it was only worth that. I ask you - how can a ring be worth what you paid for it 3 years ago - jelewery increases with value let alone sentimental value - especially a wedding ring. Let me mention too that I got a $300 discount on the ring when I purchased it - PLUS - price of gold is through the roof these days.

I asked for a copy of the claim report that they filed with UPS - funny - they tell me I have no legal right to this since it's THEIR company's personal report with other individuals info on it and bottom line, they are not responsible for a third party damaging (it went from lost, to stolen to now DAMAGED) property. Righttttt... I told them that it's MY property - they ARE responsible and I do have a legal right to a copy of the claim... Seems fishy - so I'm going fishing! I'll get back to ya!
