Approximately 4 weeks ago I received a phone call from a lady who portrayed herself as a represenative of my Visa credit card co. She proceeded to tell me since I was such a good loyal customer, she had an offer for me.
I was going to receive a $50 gift debit card and a $300 gas card. All I had to do was agree to look over information sent to me in the mail and pay $1 to one company and $1.99 to the other co. Per debit.
She said there was no risk to me because I had 10 days from the time I received the information in the mail to cancel any service they provided. I would not be charged another penny and could keep the gift card & gas card.
At no point did I give out any bank or credit card information.
On 6/23/08 WellnessWatchersMD debited my acct. For $1. On 6/24/08 EZ1RATE debited my acct. For $1. On 6/24/08 I received a welcome letter from WellnessWatchersMD re: $1 ten days trial & instructions on how to cancel. On 6/26/08 I called & cancelled. I decided not to even pursue the gift card.
I really thought I was done with the whole mess. Wrong!
On 7/8/08 my acct. Was debited $39.90 from EZ1RATE. The debit showed an 800 # in AZ. I really had no idea who/what EZ1RATE was. I telephoned the # asking first, who are you? She explained who they were & what I had agreed to and since I did not cancel within the 10 days I was charged.
I explained I did not receive a letter as promised nor was I interested in their service. She tried to tell me the letter was mailed & delivered. I argued that point & she conceded the letter was mailed. I told her she could say anything.
I continued to debate saying, why would I even consider your service at your price when I have had the same long distance carrier for years at a cost to me of only 2.5 cents/minute?
As you can see, the scam comes about by them saying I did not cancel within 10 days of receiving a letter I'm sure they never even mailed. She gave me an address of the corporate office in Nevada and said I would need to contact them by mail, which I plan to do today.
What happen to the $300 gas card? I have no idea nor do I care. I plan to contact my bank and attempt to get my $39.90 back.
The original phone call must have come from a marketing co? I'm still confused as to how "she" got my banking information but realize now how easy it is to be taken in. I will never again take a phone call from anyone I do not know.
