A True Ripoff Company! Vonage nice to you when you sign up, but nasty to you when you cancel!

We wanted unlimited long distance and signed up with Vonage. We were told that there was no contract and you pay month to month and you could cancel anytime without penalty. They were so sweet during this process. They assigned us a phone number claiming it was a local number with a local area code but they knew fully well that it was a long distance phone number. Every time I would call home from work I had to use a long distance calling card. They promise they would fix the problem... So much for their tech support located somewhere in India. The problem was never resolved.

Three months later we decided to go with Comcast because of their 3 for 1 deal which is a great deal.By the way, have you noticed that everytime you call to cancel that they are always updating their system? They want you to call back later. Anyway, after finally reaching someone, they started out pretty nice after I told them I wanted to cancel. They tried every tactic in their script to prevent me from cancelling, even after I told them I had already signed up with Comcast. Towards the end I told them that the conversation was being recorded, and that I was going to report them to the BBB, FTC and the Attorney general for unfair consumer practices. At that point the Vonage person got nasty and told me I would have to pay a cancellation fee before they would cancel." What cancellation fee? I did not sign a contract. Show me a signed contract with my signature", I said. He then threatend to send the cancellation fee to a collection agency. Eventually he said that he would cancel the account after which I IMMEDIATELY CANCELLED THE CREDIT CARD used to pay the monthly fees.

About 2 months later we received a letter from some collection agency for the cancellation fee of $45.00. Guess what, I am not paying a cent. If I have to fight it I will, but they are not getting one stinking penny from me. Vonage is a downright ripoff company. Do not use their services.
