I signed up for Vonage broadband phone service almost two years ago. They charged a $75 setup fee. They sent the router, I hooked it up. It worked about one day. I tried to contact Tech Support. I had to go through an elaborate voice tree which ended in either getting a busy signal or my call dropped. Never did reach Tech Support.
I gave up and decided to cancel. Vonage supposedly had a cancellation by email on their website. This didn't work.
I tried cancelling by phone but was told I had to contact "The Cancellation Department, " because the "regular" customer service couldn't cancel accounts. Problem with that is I couldn't reach "The Cancellation Department." I always got a busy signal.
Meanwhile, weeks are going by as I try in vain to cancel my account by email and phone. Vonage is pulling its monthly fee out of my checking account even though I am getting no service from them. Only way to stop this was to change my account at the bank.
I eventually forced Vonage to give me my $75 setup fee because I charged it back. I think I'm finally rid of them.
Wrong.
Today (10/07/06) I received a notice from a collection agency claiming I owe Vonage $58.13!!!
Vonage is designed to rip off customers. That's what its business model is.
Vonage needs to be permanently put out of business and its executives jailed for fraud.
