Cross Country Van Lines LLC Dishonest, unethical, unprofessional moving company did not arrive on time, did not deliver on time, did not provide weights, ruined furniture Ridgefield New Jersey

Scheduled to move on a Thursday and Friday. I told them repeatedly was too large a job to be done in one day. I was already scheduled to move 3,000 miles across the US and start a new job when they started saying they couldn't be there. I told them there was no choice.

After multiple calls to them and the so-called relocation service (Nationwide), they showed up at 3 PM on Saturday with a truck already half full of someone elses household goods. The driver was incredibly rude, became furious when I said I wanted extra insurance (another whole story) that had been prearranged.in fact, he repeatedly became furious and would storm out the door waving his arms around and cursing in Russian. He complained constantly that I had too much stuff (a three bedroom house) and I live alone.

I had scheduled to have my two large dogs kenneled while the movers were there, but I cancelled that when the move became so late, as I planned to leave early Sunday morning, and couldn't pick my dogs up Sunday. So, with keeping up with dogs in freezing weather and open doors, so was not able to watch the packing the way I should have a big mistake.

They worked until midnight, didn't have enough boxes, and the truck was full. So, they just left, with half my household goods still there and my schedule requiring me to start my trip. First, they refused to tell me when they would return, then said it wouldn't be until Monday. I ended up paying someone to spend the day at my house every day to wait for them to return. They refused to tell me when they would be back.

Finally, on Thursday, 6 PM, they showed up, so I had to pay someone to stay there with them until midnight. They didn't have enough boxes again. Fortunately I break boxes down and had left them in my garage, so they used all of those, plus apparently ones they got from trash containers around. Eg a box that had contained a car seat, certainly not mine.

Then, the date they were to deliver my furniture came and went, with me calling repeatedly and no one able to tell my where they were or when they would arrive. Finally, after I had started working, they called at 9 PM and had to deliver the next day. Once again, I had to pay someone to be at my house because I had to be at work. I had paid for my daughter to fly from Atlanta to make the trip with me, help me unpack, and then return to Atlanta from Reno. I changed her return flight once hoping the truck would arrive (price of a new ticket), but they still didn't arrive, and my daughter had returned to Atlanta.

As the person I paid had no idea where things went, my china cabinet ended up in my upstairs bedroom and everything was randomly scattered about. Also, I had to change the dates for getting my old house painted and carpeted in preparation to be sold, as the house wasn't empty.

I was never able to get weight tickets from them, and they upped my cost significantly, insisting on a cashiers check for the difference before they would unload.

The driver hired three kids from a day labor place to unload the furniture. Nice kids, but no idea what they were doing. This driver also complained constantly about how much stuff I had, and then had the nerve to ask for a tip when they were done. I actually did give the kids some money, as he got started so late that by the time they were finished the day labor place was closed and they had no way to get paid and no money. The driver wasn't going to give them anything.

Now, all the boxes were stacked in a three car garage, because none were marked, so there was no way to tell where to put them. A shelf to a very large armoire was left lying in my front yard at my old house and I had to pay to have it shipped to me.

I had a brand new Sirius radio that was still in the plastic container. The plastic had been carefully cut open, the radio taken, and the empty package packed in a moving box. A DVD player/recorder and a full set of flatware never turned up at all.

My furniture, wood and leather, had been taped in place, drawers, tables, doors, etc with sticky brown packing tape directly onto the wood and leather. It either pulled finish completely off, or left tape residue, or both. My dining table finish was completely ruined and I am still trying to get tape residue off things.

A brand new round occasional table was completely was covered with scratches and abrasions.
Fabric lamp shades were destroyed.
Large expensive, tiffany lamp shades were stacked into each other and thrown into a bottom of a box with virtually no packing.
Picture frames I brought from India were completely destroyed.
Rugs I hand carried from India were wadded up in bottom of boxes.

There was very little actual packing done. Things were simply thrown into boxes. I had a kerosene lamp I was planning to leave, and they packed it, half full of kerosene, in the same box where they also threw in boxes of matches. A very expensive vase of artificial orchids was wadded into a box with things thrown in on top of it. Toilet brushes and plungers were thrown in along with dining room dishes. My computer, monitor, and printer were dumped into boxes with virtually no packing, and other things thrown in on top of them.

A top of the line coffee grinder, a BUNN coffee maker, and a very heavy Kitchenaid mixer were all simply thrown in a box together, no packing at all. I found my breadmaker in the bottom of a bunch of boxes taped together to make one box, and on top of it were my garden tools. No packing.

There were no dish boxes dishes were packed into huge boxes along with I guess whatever was handy. Some things they wrapped in my towels, washcloths, and tablecloths. Crystal in that type of wrapping broke.
They clearly had left the first half of my load stored somewhere. An antique dresser must have gotten wet, or exceedingly hot, as the finish completely peeled off one side of it after arriving here. Several boxes had clearly been wet and dried.

While unloading furniture, they gouged a huge hole in brand new laminate flooring. They refused to place my computer armoire far enough along the wall so I could access the electrical outlet behind it. One bed was simply thrown together had to be taken back apart and put back together. The other bed was in a room so full of other furniture it couldn't be put together.
