I'm not naming names, because it would be dangerous to do so, but the idea that judges, clerks and attorneys in the Family Court there are basically dishonest & collude to generate fees by arranging for excessive adjournments of cases, is something I've seen first-hand. The Riverside Family Law Court has been in the papers as having a tremendous backlog of cases. What is not stated is that the backlog is because no part of the "system" there is interested in speed.
The judges were and will be practicing attorneys there, so they have no interest in keeping cases moving fast and attorneys in "check." The attorneys make out like bandits every time a case is put-over for another appearance, since each appearance generates hundreds of dollars in "hourly" legal fees. ("Billable Hours" is a huge and obvious method by which lawyers routinely overcharge their "clients" or more accurately, their "victims") More than a few times I was amazed how one unresolved comma in a paragraph at 4:30pm ended up causing the case to be put over for 3-to-4 months (three such commas, and an entire year can go by!).
The court and its clerks and attorneys (on both sides) who all make money on the spouse with the larger income, have an organized vampiric feeding exercise on that larger-income-spouse, until finally some "event" signals that the time for the multi-year feeding frenzy is over. That court and its minions don't just need reform... That godforsaken hellhole needs an exorcism. Be warned if you're the larger-income-spouse at the start of a divorce... You will be completely fleeced.
