In April we received an email notice from JRP Santa Clara (education. [email protected]) stated as follows:

"JRP Corporate has requested that we relinquish the franchise to them, in effect rescinding our ability to do business under the JRP name and to continue servicing JRP students. JRP Corporate will be assuming responsibility for all aspects of your program. Should you have questions about this change and the details of ongoing programs, please call JRP Corporate at (702) 430-8683. Ron Patterson, owner of JRP Corporate, or his staff will be happy to assist you."

This was followed up by an email on April 4 from Steve Thompson [[email protected]] stated as follows:

"Dear Client,

We are very happy to announce the John Robert Powers Marin and Santa Clara schools are under new ownership. The new owners have 15 JRP schools throughout the United States, Canada and one in the UK.

I am the Managing Member of the new ownership team and my name is Steve Thompson. I am committed to providing our students with an incredibly rewarding experience and develop a high level of talent and confidence. I will arrange various parent meetings in a few weeks to address any concerns you may have and inform you of all changes that are being made. The teachers and school directors are not the people who are responsible for addressing your concerns. I ask you to please be patient and wait until I can meet with you. I thank you for your understanding and support!

We are sorry for any inconvenience you may have during this brief transition period but we are sure you will find our commitment to the school and your children to be nothing short of outstanding!

Please note; there will be no classes between April 4th thru April 18th. Classes will resume on April 19th and you will receive a call to inform you of the new location and any schedule changes."

We never received a call or a notice of schedule changes or even the location of the new school. After several weeks of waiting I finally called JRP corporate (702) 430-8683 who gave me the phone #408-554-2943 where I got an answering machine greeting: This number is not being answered at this time, please try your call again later I eventually sent an email to msg and someone by the name of Bernice Johnson called me back.

She was helpful in the fact that she provided me a new school schedule. However when I asked her why we have not been contacted by the school directly she said that the new owner did not have a list of the students and families. I found this hard to believe since we got an email from the supposed new owner, Steve Thompson, back in April...

So why no formal contact? Upon further discussion, Ms Johnson stated that the new owner has agreed to honor contracts paid to Stanley Robinson with no economic incentive to the new owner... My reply, "no wonder no one is reaching out to the families and students... He gets nothing out of it - Mr. Thompson must not really want to honor these contracts" She replied, "well, that's correct - he is doing this as a favor to JRP Corp." Ms. Johnson urged me to check out the internet to investigate ways of getting reimbursed. She said I should contact my credit card company, the District Attorney and look into a class action law suit... SO HERE I AM!

At this point, I just want our money back.
