My 10-year-old daughter purchased (with her own money) a palomino gelding, "Dooley, " from Ms. MacKenzie on May 3, following two visits and a standard pre-purchase exam.
On May 9, after lounging Dooley in the ring for 15 minutes, our trainer noticed a problem with Dooley's gait, and recommended another veterinarian examine the horse.
On May 12, we were notified that Dooley has navicular syndrome/caudal heel pain. We were cautioned that, even with treatment, the navicular bone may not be able to handle a weight-bearing load.
Another veterinarian unfamiliar with the case diagnosed a soundness issue within 30 minutes.
Dooley has not been ridden since purchase.
Ms. MacKenzie states that she was unaware of any soundness issues with the horse.
