Here are some of the fun we have had in the two months we have had Directv:
1. One of the channels clearly shown on the web page for the package we chose was not actually included. The only way to get it was to sign up for Sports Pack at $12.00 per month. I contacted Directv and sent them a copy of the web page showing the icon of the particular channel, to no avail. Too bad, so sad for us.
2. After deciding to cough up the additional $12.00 per month, we signed up to add Sports Pack. After adding Sports Pack, the Directv web page said that by adding Sports Pack we had just been upgraded to the next level of programming automatically. I kept a log for one week and over half the channels that were supposed to be included said "channel not purchased." I tried to revert to our original package but you have to keep a package upgrade for a minimum of 30 days. I contacted Directv and was informed that someone in our household had changed our package. Too bad, so sad for us again.
3. After the 30 days was up, I changed back to the original package, at which time Directv web page said that by changing the package we would no longer have any premium channels (3 months free premium channels was included when we originally signed up). I emailed Directv to let them know that I expect to receive the remaining one month of free premium channels. So far, no answer. Looks like too bad again.
When we originally signed up, we had to give a credit card number even though we were not charging anything. That is so if you cancel your service before your agreement period has expired your credit card can be charged. It is very tempting to cancel the credit card and then cancel Directv. I'm sure they would then sue for the remaining balance.
Is there any recourse to get out of one of their contracts based on their failure to provide service as promised?
