I came to work for Knight Transportation being told I would get an average of 2500 to 3000 miles per week; receive $50 dollars a day for time layed over more than 24hrs and, a one cent bonus per mile after 90 days. What I actually got was:
1500 miles a week the first month; 750 miles a week the second; and less after that. A truck that had a leak in the exhaust that i couldn't run unless i had the windows rolled down; bald tires; a computer that was set up to shut the truck off between 76 degrees and 32 degrees essentially burning me up in the summer and freezing me nearly to death in the winter. Repeated requests for service were denied at all terminals until i threatened to quit. They fixed the truck, but wouldn't run me and I starved on 16 dollars a week and got obscenely behind in my child support. When I finally did get a load they further harrassed me by taking the whole lot of my health insurance payments out of my check at the same time causing me to starve longer!
When I had finally had enough and got back into Georgia where I live, they lied to me to get me to bring they're truck back to the terminal instead of going home and clearing my stuff out first. They stiffed me for 6 months of layover pay because the terminal managers wouldn't make they're dispatchers fill out the paperwork necessary to claim my layover pay and believe me when i say i was ALWAYS layed over. They then proceeded to fire me for an infraction of a company policy I broke to stop at my grandmother's house so that I could get something to eat since i couldn't afford to buy anything because i hadn't made a dime in two months. They refused to help me get my things home and threatened not to get me a bus ticket, but complied with laws in this regard after i threatened to sue them if they didn't get me home. I had to leave 5000 dollars of my personal property in they're office without security of any kind on their "WORD" that it would be there when i wanted to get it because i couldn't afford a rental vehicle to get it home from Atlanta to Savannah where i live. I have never worked for such a missmanaged, stingy, underfunded, unscrupulous, backwards bunch of individuals in my life! I've been told they put a derog on my DAC report for the situation that they caused in the first place by not fullfilling the promise they made for miles. I never turned anything they gave me down, and up until the last couple of loads i drove, I always tryed to be ontime if i could be since they constantly gave me loads that were late before i even got them dispatched to me. I never received a bonus cause that depends on having mileage that I was never offered to me for one, number two they make the bonus prerequisite on having an idle time on your truck that is totally unreasonable during the winter since they're bunk heaters only run a couple hours on the insufficient number of batteries they equip the trucks with and in the summer cause it's so hot in Georgia. Not to mention i have allergies and suffer when i have to breath outdoor air and almost got pneumonia during the winter from the cold i was forced to endure. They have no compassion for the people they employ and use Fascist tactics to control their employees as in if you wanna eat you better do what we want! Take care not to fall in the same pit i fell into. Don't work for Knight you'll regret it!
