My daughter was contacted via her MySpace by a "scout" for One Source Talent last week and invited to their "open call" which was held last night.
Being the skeptical but supportive mom that I am, I decided to let her attend only under the condition that I accompany her. When we arrived we found 30 other teens and young children in line also waiting for their chance to be interviewed.
We were given clipboard for general info, then ushered into a "holding room" that was hot and
uncomfortable. "The Devil Wears Prada" was playing on a flat screen TV on the wall. A young man entered and informed us that this was a chance a few of the lucky will have to break into the business, that not all will be invited back, and not all will have what it takes.
He then preceded to tell us about how important comp cards are in the business and how expensive they can be. He used a reference to senior pictures and I knew at that point this was a scam. I wanted to ring his neck but I stayed there to support my daughter. He went on to explain that the comp cards that One Source Talents uses are digital and "special" since they submit them to their webpage to make access easier for those looking to book their models and actors.
My daughter was called for her interview and I joined her. This was going to be good, I just knew it. This interesting (not a compliment) individual started asking my daughter if she was really serious and would she do whatever it takes to make it in this industry. She invited her back the next day for her second interview and made sure she told us that at that time she would be told about her comp cards. That was it, I was done right then and there. We wouldn't be showing up the next day for the second interview.
Needless to say, I came home and started researching One Source Talent and the internet. Anyone interested in seeing what a complete scam this company and its employees are just Google: One Source Talent Scam and read the pages and pages of complaints.
I feel bad for all the innocent people being taken for their hard-earned money by this complete sham of a company. Why isn't someone doing something to shut these people down? When I saw all the young children waiting in line with their parents I knew something wasn't right. Not only that, but anyone knows legitimate modeling agencies will NEVER charge you a dollar. They earn their money from commisions based on the work they get you!
I hope that I can save someone out there money and time by my honesty. I am glad that my daughter was honest enough to tell me about this before she went on her own and signed up for something that could have cost her thousands.
Buyer Beware! Run don't walk away from One Source Talent!!!
