Charges for pornography no one ordered

I have my Cox Cable bill deducted from my bank account every month. Usually my bill is $110 for cable (no premium movie channels) and high speed internet. I checked my bank account online today (Feb 9th 08) to find that Cox had taken out $242. Luckily, I had just gotten my tax return, or I might have bounced my rent check. I called their "customer service" line and spoke to someone about my situation. I said I wanted to know the reason for the drastic change in my bill.

I was informed that I had ordered nine "blue movies" (pornography) at $14.99 a piece over the last month. I am a new mother who stays home all day to care for my infant son. I did not order those movies. My husband has been out to sea with the aircraft carrier he is stationed on, so he did not order those movies. There has been no one in my house when I have not been here (or even when I have been) who could have ordered those movies. I told the representative this and told him I would like the money back that I was erroneously charged. He said he couldn't do this, but asked if I would like to speak with a supervisor.

The supervisor gets on the line and makes me recount my story. He assures me that the only way those movies would end up on my bill is if I had, in fact, ordered them via my cable box. Now, my best friend had just gone through the exact same dilemma with these thieves not four months ago, so I knew I was not the only person this had happened to. I told him that, and he responded rudely, telling me that he certainly couldn't verify that, as he didn't have her account information in front of him.

I tried many times to make clear to this man that I DID NOT ORDER THOSE MOVIES. He refused to believe me and advised me to put a PIN on the on-demand feature. He then asked what I wanted him to do about the situation. I told him I would like to be reimbursed for the false charges. He said they don't do that, so I told him I would like my service cancelled immediately. I then tried to go online and see the actual charges and was repeatedly denied access to my own account.

I am returning their equipment first thing Monday, but the damage is already done. I wish there were some way I could make them give me my money back, but sadly, there probably isn't, especially since I have no idea how the boxes actually work and how those false charges could have gotten on my account. But rest assured, I will never do business with them again. These crooks must be stopped.
