My mother died and because of years of separation from her family I was advised to hire an attorney to help with her estate and obtaining custody of my minor brother.
My husband and I paid $5000 to Attorney Kuhn of Moss and Kuhn in Beaufort, SC and the attorney ripped us off. He did not represent us, refused to refund my money, lied that the money was being refunded, and blatantly took advantage of our trust.
My mother willed her home to my brother and yet he was barred from the home by her sister and there was nothing that we could do because it was a civil matter. When we contacted the attorney he was never available and never returned calls. When I finally "caught" his paralegal because she was assisting the receptionist one day, she did not have a clue about the status of my case.
We paid them $5000 in April yet in August this was the only communication that we had with them, the attached email and the early morning phone call from the attorney claiming that the court date was rescheduled "because at the last minute Ms. Brown (my aunt) contested." From the onset he claimed to have filed on the contested calendar because there was no doubt that my aunt would contest, when I reminded him of this he said he did it only to get an earlier court date. This strategy was such nonsense because what good would it due to have an uncontested court date knowing that it would be contested and not simultaneously having a contested court date?
Everyone is reluctant to go up against an attorney but this is so unfair. He does not need the $5000 like my family does. We do not even need his service any longer because my mom's estate went to probate and my brother and I could do nothing but be shut out by my mother's sister. My brother is a high school senior so it is no longer necessary to seek custody. We would like our money back but as lawyers they know how to manipulate the system so that we would not be refunded.
I hurts like hell because we used this money that my mother left to secure her estate but that did not happen. We feel robbed across the board.

Sue,
I explained to Mr. Kuhn that they did not accept this last year that is why we opted to home school Aaron for the last few months of school. My mom died at the end of January, he was home schooled until June.
Sue, I don't know if it is because I am in Columbia but we have a serious break down in communication and I feel that I am suffering because of it. The things that I needed to happen in my case are not happening. When I speak with you, I don't get return calls.
We retained attorney Kuhn because he assured us that my brother's custody and my mother's estate issues could be worked together.
Anyway, we have a meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, we can discuss these issues then.
