I have been a customer of Rent A Center since 1995. I have paid at least $65,000-$75,000 over that time period, no exaggeration! I have rented everything from Bedroom furniture, living room, big screen TVs, Stereos, computers, Dining room, and even a freezer. For the most part I have had good experiences with them. I had times when I was struggling and they always worked with me. I had items that needed fixing and they always made sure that they were fixed or if not, gave me a good substitution. I have always paid my bill.
But within the last year the climate has changed. The first thing was my 1sT laptop being brought in for service and finding out after it had been out for 7 months, that it probably set on the shelf in their back office for 6 months. Then my 2nd laptop was stolen in broad daylight from their back room from a customer. All my perosnal information was on it and I had to change all my accts. And file a police report, but still I feel like they compensated me for it and I got past it.
Then I had the time were I had made arrangements with the Store Manager to pay both weeks together because I was in the hospital, well a newly appointed asst. Manager took it upon himself to charge my credit card that I had on file without speaking with me first and that was not the card I was going to use. It was against store policy and when I argued with him, he threaten to come take my stuff. Of course I was going to take that and after speaking with the store manager, he removed that person as my acct. Manager. So I let that go. Then a couple of times my daughter padi my bill for me and was overcharged by $3, not a lot to you, but to me it is with what I am going thru.
But now, I have about $200 I owe them for some bedroom furniture. (It will be completely paid off). I have been very ill and I am having emergency surgery in 2 weeks. I don't get paid when I don't work so things have been hard. Now they act like they don't want to take 1 payment on a Tuesday-Wednesday and get my other payment on the Saturday when it is due. There are a couple of times when I spoke with Brian or Luis and they never put in the computer that I called. So I call when I have both payments. I am not asking for a free ride, but I would appreciate some consideration with how much money I have spent over the years.
So now they are showing up to my house. I was not mad about it the first time because she had not heard from me and i understood she was doing her job. But the last 2 times, I come home and the Rent-A-Center guy is coming out of my house!!! They convinced a 9 yr. To let them in my house when I wasn't there and my husband is upstairs asleep. I cussed them out, that is against the law. And then this past Saturday, I called and made my payment at 10:20 am and they send the Rent-A-Center guy to my house at 1:00pm!
Now I am getting pissed. This is harrassment to me. The guy I paid on the phone said that he told the driver I had paid, but the driver said he had not been told.
I am not asking for special treatment and I have heard of the harrassing stories on here, but I never thought that they would do it to me. I have referred 4 customers to them over the years, I have been a good customer and now I feel like I am not good enough for the store manager to even call me back. If I could come up wioth the $200 I would like to pay them off and not rent another thing from them, but my family eating, having electricity and a place to live has to take presendence right now.
All I know is that I will never rent another thing from them after I pay this off and I will never send another person to rent from them. They charge 3 times the amount of the merchandise and make you think that they are doing something. Yes I choose to rent from them and at the time it was the best I could do, but never again.
