I had gotten a paper stating that i had won $20,000.00. Along with that paper was a check for $1,980.00. I had called to confirm that I had received this letter and they told me that I may go to the bank and cash the check. I was completely excited to know that I had won this money.
I talked to plenty of friends and family and they all told me that I should cash the check. When I went to the bank to put the money in my account they had absolutly no problem with it. The money stayed in my account for a couple of days so I decided to catch up with bills, buy food for the house, buy school clothing for my daughters, ect. I figured that this was all good luck. Too bad it was only a scam.
As of today, I am NEGATIVE $1,500.00 in my bank account. I called my bank and they said that the check I had cashed bounced. They gave me the check number and the bank that was on the check. I called the bank that they told me was on the check, Region Bank, and they said that it was definetly a scam, they had nothing to do with it, and there is nothing they can do for me.
I even tried to call the number they gave me on the paper, AFTER I called to confirm that I had received the letter and they told me to cash it, I got through once tried to tell them about being $1,500.00 in the negative because of them. They hung up on me. Since then I keep trying to call back and I get no answer.
This is a really sad story. My family and I were extremely excited to get this money. I have no idea what I am going to do, this months bills are coming up very soon and I have no way to pay them if i stay in the negative.
Here is a copy (although, I am just going to type what is on the paper) of the letter they sent me:
First Liberty Lottery is pleased to notify you that you are a winner in our promotional prize sweepstakes & lottery program. This draw was held on July 23rd your name was attached to the winning ticket with a prize amount of $120,000 dollars. We are now contacting you in order for you to claim your prize money. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of how to claim your prize without delay.
In order for you to claim your prize you will need to pay a fee of which the calculated amount is $1,980.00 dollars. Enclosed is a check payable to you in the above amount. Please before cashing this check, you have to call to confirm that you have received this letter and the enclosed check. An amount of 10% will be deducted from your cash prize to repay the fees.
Further more this draw was held in Las Vegs. If we do not hear from you within three weeks from the day this letter was sent, your file will be closed and you will no longer be able to claim your prize. Therefore, please contact us without delay so that you will not be left out of your prize money.
