I switched from Verizon To Vonage on June 7, and it was the biggest mistake I've ever made! I figured that $24.99 a month was a great deal, and I would save big on my phone bill, right? WRONG!!! Within 5 days I contacted Vonage to cancel my service and switched back to Verizon, and as of today (July 20th) I am still waiting to receive my refund from them. My entire experience with them has been a nightmare.

When I first called to switch over to Vonage I was charged an activation fee of $32.99 plus an additional $14.99 shipping fee for the useless device they sent me. From the beginning I did not understand what I needed this device for, and it was never explained to me what the purpose of it was.

I didn't find that out until my number was routed from Verizon to Vonage, and I couldn't make any calls out. The only way that I could receive calls was through their voicemail. When I called to find out what the reason was for this I then was told that the device needed to be hooked up to my computer in order to receive & make calls. I have never heard anything so stupid in my life!

I then proceeded to tell them that I wanted to cancel my account, and was transfered to about 5 different people in order to do so (half of which did not speak English). When I finally did speak to someone regarding cancelation I was told that my number would be routed back to Verizon within 7-10 business days. Once that was done I would have to call Vonage back to cancel at that time, and that I would be charged a $42.00 cancelation fee.

I told the customer service rep. That I didn't understand why I needed to pay a cancelation fee for a service that I never even used. Their response was that once I canceled my account I could send their stupid device back, and once they received the device then they would refund my activation, shipping & cancelation fees.

Of course, if took the full 10 days to get my phone number back from them, so other than my cellphone (which has horrible service in the area where I live) I had no way to make phone calls. Thank God I didn't have an emergency at my home during those 10 days. Actually, on the 10th day my phone was still dead, so I had to call Vonage again to find out what the problem was.

I lost track of how many times I was transfered to different people, and each time I was transfered I had about a 15 minute wait. Two hours later I finally got the issue resolved. I then sent their device back to them, and was notified by E-mail that they received it on July 6th.

A week later I was back on the phone with them trying to find out what happened with my refund??? I was then told that it would take 7-10 business days for them to transfer the money back into my bank account. Funny. It took them less than a day to take the money out of my account.

And As an added bonus I checked my account early this morning, (because it is the 10th business day) & not to my surprise there is still no sign of my refund. I had to make yet another call to Vonage, and supposedly everything is straightened out now. I'll believe it when I see my money back in my account, because now they are telling me that the transaction is going to take up to 2 days. Absolutely ridiculous!

I wish that I would have checked this website before making the stupid decision to switch over to Vonage. Readers beware! If you ever think of going with this phone co., think again. They are evil!
