Ripoff Insists on charging us an outrageous deactivation fee of $273

I recently signed up with Direct TV in April. After about two weeks of using Direct TV my wife and I decided we would switch back to Comcast. I had called Direct TV and asked if they have a 30 day cancellation policy in which the person I spoke with (unfortunately I do not have a name) said yes and cancelled with no fees. About two months later I received a bill for a deactivation fee of $273. I called Direct TV and told them a representative of theirs told me that they have a 30 day cancellation agreement in which she had stated they only had a 3 day cancellation agreement. I sent the request up to a supervisor in which he agreed that this situation was on my side and would be sent to the board for review. He mentioned that they would send me a letter with their response or a phone call in which I recieved neither. I have just received a collection notice from a collection agency saying that I owe $273. I thought this issue was done and now they are ruining my credit! Not only did I not recieve a letter but they went straight to a collection agency. I'm going to attempt to call them once more to resolve this issue, however, does anyone know what can be done to stop this? I looked at the agreement and the only thing it mentions is a $15 cancellation fee, or a maximum amount allowed by law. Why in the world would they charge me the max amount for just being on for two weeks?!
