Shiva Transporters are not just the "Ripoff Kings", they are a consumers worst nightmare! They have made my life miserable.
They were 10 days late with my shipment and kept me from persueing a job because they had my "work clothes" on their truck. They quoted me one price and then mysteriously, once my things were on the truck, the weight grew by 1000 pounds, (of which they have still not shown proof that my things weighed what they said.)
They contacted me and gave me an estimate over the phone, stating that they would have to do it that way, since my move was just a few days away.
They also told me that the shipment would, unlike some other companies, be picked up and delivered on the same truck. This was not the case and when they did deliver, the driver stated that he could not fit his semi truck into the apartment complex where I live. Although, before he delivered and since, I have seen many semi trucks in that same facility.
So due to this, he charged me an extra $500.00 for a "shuttle" fee. He said that was to cover the smaller truck that he had rented to move my things into. When I contacted the company that he rented the smaller truck from, they quoted me a price of $40.00 (not even close to the $500.00, is it?)
He told me that if I didn't pay what he demanded (the extra $690.00 for the extra 1000 pounds plus the extra $500.00; that he would not be able to deliver my things.
I paid the ransom for my things only to find that most of my furniture was destroyed. The driver explained that I just needed to file a claim with the insurance company "Anthem Claims Manangement" (that's a whole other story) and that I would be reimbursed the damages from them.
I estimated the damaged furniture to be valued at $2500.00 because they had damaged my antique desk, broken the couch's back, ruined my two end tables, the dresser and chest of drawers which were practically brand new, along with my brand new entertainment center.
When Anthem Claims Management made me an offer to replace the value of these things, they offered $120.00 a joke right!
My next step was to report them to the "American Moving and Storage Association", who in turn referred me to the "National Arbitration Forum".
This was another waste of time and money, on my part, since all they have done is try to contact Shiva Transport (only after I filed the claim and paid over $250.00 to do so). Shiva Transport refused to repsond to them and so the arbitration was just dropped; with the national arbitration forum sending all my pictures and correspondence back to me saying that they cannot force the transport company into arbitration and therefore cannot help me. Let me now tell you that this has taken almost 9 months worth of waiting from me, since the national arbitration forum felt that they had to keep giving shiva transport another 30 days and then another 30 days etc.
If there is someone out there considering to use Shiva Transport to move their things, let me just say "DON'T". Consider yourselves warned and please learn by my mistake.
