My sister had booked her wedding at the Wright House reception center in Mesa, AZ. 6 months before the wedding, it was decided the the date needed to be pushed back. My mother wrote the Wright House, cancelled the reservation, and requested that a new date be reserved. She called them a week or two later to confirm that her leter was recieved and was told that it had been and everything was fine.

It is now four months before the wedding, three weeks ago my sister contacted the wright house to schedule an appointment to pick out her linens and centerpieces. When she Called she was told that she did not have her date reserved, the no payments had been made and that the old date had been cancelled and a refund had been sent to my mother.

No refund had been sent. My mother contacted the Wright House and was told that no refund was sent, and no refund would be sent. They claimed that she was mailed a letter cancelling the reservation, which my mother never recieved. The manager at the Wright House, told my mother that it is not their normal policy to give refunds and that she would ahve to contact the owner, who was out of town. It took all of us 2 weeks to contact the owner, who then took two days to call us back. It was then she informed my mother that she was not obligated contractually to return any money paid because the date was cancelled.

My mother reminded her that she had rescheduled, and the owner came back with " YOu don't have anything with my signature on it" therefore it didn't happen. The owner calimed that she would be "generous" and let my mother reuse the funds if we rebooked at The Wright HOuse, which no longer had a date available that fit into everyone's vacation schedule. She then told my mother that she needed to "consider what was more expensive, lsoing her money or rescheduling everyone's travel plans". My mother asked her why my sister was told that a refund was recieved if it is not policy to issue refunds. The owner then told my mother that her daughter "must not have been listening" because her employee would never say that. THen the woman went on to brag how she had "never given a refund".

In the end, my mother is out $2800 and we had to find another reception 3 months before the wedding, which resulted in us having to change the date a second time due to lack of availability. We paid the Wright House $2800 to have a wedding, we have not had the wedding and we should get our money back. What occured was an unfortunate mistake, but refusing to refund money that was paid is atorcious and the owner of that establishment lacks any form of ethical business skills.
