After reading how many other consumers have had problems getting Home Depot to honor gift cards, I'm surprised HD can still get away with it. I bought ~$5000 worth of appliances last June and specifically went with Home Depot because of the "deals" they had available: a GE rebate, a delivery rebate and a Home Depot/Energy Star $200 gift card. I prepared them all at once and mailed them all the same day. Guess which one magically disappeared. The gift card. I checked the rebate status website, and it said that I had a rebate for a garage door being processed?!?! That wasn't right either.
I called them a few times and was told first that it was being processed, then that my rebate couldn't be found at all. In January I called and talked to a woman who said there was an error on their end and that she had it sorted out, the rebate had been submitted, and to expect it in 4-6 weeks. Makes you want to record conversations, huh?
When I last called, they said I need to fax them the original rebate form FROM LAST YEAR. Don't they have that? And everything else I sent them? Does anyone out there have a Home Depot gift card form for the purchase of qualifying Energy Star appliances for June 06?
I found the form for THIS year's promotion online. Maybe in the stacks of papers I have I will one day locate the original form. In the meantime, I'm going to call my credit card company (also Home Depot) and see what they have to say. See if I can pit Home Depot against itself! Otherwise, I'll follow the advice of others and start emailing execs. Oh, and start going to Ace Hardware and Lowe's.
