Ripoff billing reconnect disconnect fraudulent

I had my electricity disconnected on 3/7/06, and as soon as I arrived home from work, I called their office to arrange to have it reconnected. I was informed the reconnect fee would be $175.00 because it was afterhours, and I agreed to the fee. As were normal practices prior, I had my checkbook awaiting the service man to reconnect me.

Within 1 minute of getting off the phone with the afterhours dispatch, my power was cut back on electronically. Confused as to when my payment should be made, I tried calling the dispatch immediately back and got no answer.

I called the Tri County office this morning (3/8) at 9:23 A.M. Only to be told by Michelle that my power had again been cut off because I had not paid by 9:00. I was told that to get it cut back on again, there would be an additional $125 service charge, on top of the $175 service charge, and on top of my $134 bill.

Michelle transferred me to Annette Eden, who told me that there was nothing she could do after speaking with the person that was on dispatch last night. I asked to speak to Paul Thompson, the General Manager, and he was unavailable. They told me that Glenn Hale was available to speak with though. Glenn is the Director of Finance and Administration.

Glenn told me that it was there standard collection procedure, that the high costs were due to the costs of collection, but also told me that he didn't believe that the members of the co-op had ever received information regarding the 9 A.M. Re-cutoff.

He also told me it was my word against the dispatch lady's word that she had told me about it. The dispatcher never told me anything regarding this, otherwise I would have made sure to call 23 minutes earlier. I told him that I would have to go on and pay the bill so that I had power when I returned home, but also told him that I would be following up on this instance. I called Michelle back, and made my payment for $450 and got my power cut back on.
