Warning: Home Depot marks down returns made without a receipt. It has happened several times, and I refuse to shop there again. I bought a bathroom vanity for $249.00 and its door was cracked. I wanted a replacement, but the Cherry Wood one was out of stock, though an Oak Wood one was available. Since I had no receipt, they offered a $89.00 store credit card. They only give store credit, never an exchange.
I also bought a steel RH door for $129.00. At home I found I needed a LH door. I figured it would be no problem because the door was BRAND NEW, so I did not bother looking for my receipt, as I simply wanted to swap it for a LH door. The store managers insulted me by offering a $99.00 store credit card, saying the RH door had a different number than the one in their computer system, so they would not exchange it. I would not accept $30.00 less and then pay $30.00 more for the swap, so I had to haul the door back home, 30 miles away. Everything gets discounted when you take store credit. They say that if an item has ever been on sale, they may use the lowest price as your credit. THEIR RETURN SYSTEM ALWAYS SHOWS A SALE.
When I reported this to their Home Office, this was the reply: Home Depot Customer Care thanked me for contacting them and for passing along my concerns, and apologized for not meeting my expectations. It then stated that the policy exists so Home Depot stays consistent across the whole company, and that no exceptions are made.
I also want to report my purchase of a New John Deere Tractor. Home Depot first had to charge and service the tractor before I took it home. At home I found the next day that it would not start.
I noticed the battery was dead and tried to bring it back to Home Depot, which told me to go to the John Deere service center for a replacement battery. When I got there, John Deere service told me the tractor did not have the John Deere battery that a new tractor should have. I had no wish to be insulted by Home Depot a second time, so I bought a new battery from John Deere. I took it home and the lawn tractor still would not start. I had to return the tractor to John Deere for service, and they fixed the fuel problems, since everything was gummed up from old gas. John Deere said this was not covered by warranty, so I had to pay for repairs.
Home Depot is selling old equipment as though it were new.
I did not do much about this, but I think it is fraud. If this tractor was not running like a new one, why did Home Depot sell it?
Beware of Home Depot, they rip you off!
