Quick Trip Movers / American Nation Express Class Action Law Suite - count me in! Beware, furniture held hostage, overcharged, hired people off the street! Truck was not big enough! Furniture broken

We are another victim of this company. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of Ken Ingram who quoted us the 28cents to KY, please let us know.

Here is the report filed on BBB. Please note when filing with the BBB, you need to check out that they label your case correctly. I had to go back and have them change it 2-3 times to "dispute unresolved" as they closed out as "resolved".

BBB submission

In February we received quotes from 3 companies to move our household goods to either AL, TN or KY. We decided on Quick Trip Movers based on the fact that they said the move would be carried out by their own employees and that they would put in a not to exceed clause since we were going to pack as much as we could. Their representative (Ken Ingram) came out to our house and examined every room. We were quoted a price of: Option 1 (we pack) - $3,538 Option 2 (they pack) - $4,060 not to exceed $4,200

This quote was based on a move to TN at 19 cents a pound but, were told by their representative, Ken Ingram (he made call to company to check) that a move to KY would be 28cents for additional mileage. The additional mileage from TN to KY was an additional 146 miles and should have increased the price by $1,327. This is based on a weight of 14,750, however, we were told the final weight was 14,000 so final price to KY should have been:

$3,920 Option 2 (they pack) at 28cents per pound at final weight of 14,000
$196 5% Diesel Surcharge
$295 Wrapping Material
$495 Packing Material
$327 Labor for Packing
&
$5,233

We ended up paying a total of $6,752 and our goods were held hostage when we tried to dispute this overcharge. Also the final Bill of Lading shows $4,877, however, they collected $6,752. They said they use a different tariff in KY and that Ken Ingram was no longer with the company. I am disputing this overcharge of $1,519 and would like to see a full refund to settle this matter. I did make a note on the Bill of Lading that we were quoted 28 cents originally.

They did not return calls, did not perform the service as planned as they did not have the trucks available and also hired temporary workers in KY to unpack when they said the whole move would be performed by their own employees. Many items were broken and having moved from overseas and state to state was surprised at the lack of care our goods received but, the misinterpretation on the binding quote is my main concern for settlement.

SETTLEMENT: Refund

SETTLEMENT EXPLANATION:
We were quoted a maximum price of $5,233 for our move, however, were overcharged $1,519 as they would not honor the 28 cents we were originally quoted by their representative, Ken Ingram. We would like the $1,519 to be refunded.

Their response to BBB:

The charge per pound to KY is diffrent then the charge per pound to TN the price per pound to KY is much higher done the price per pound to TN it is determine by the company's tariff which the customer is more then welcome to come to our office and inspect it.

Dispute Reply to them:

We were quoted the 28 cents a mile for KY from your representative (verbal contract). My husband and I were both standing right beside him when he made the call to your office and was given the rate of 28 cents for KY which I immediately wrote down on my notes. Also please note, I signed the bill of lading on 4/28/06 under duress as our furniture was being held hostage but, did note on the bill of lading that we were originally quoted 28 cents for KY. We were charged $1,875 for the change of location when it should have been $1,327.

I would like to receive from your company a total breakdown of charges as even with the discrepancy in mileage per pound there is still a large discrepancy and it is not clear where this is coming from.

Contractually, we were given a not to exceed quote of the following from your company which is in writing:

Packing Material $495 - charged as quoted
Labor for packing $327 - charged $653 ($326 overcharge)
Wrapping Material $295 - charged $786 ($491 overcharge)
