In June my ten year old sister died of unknown causes. Shortly after her death, I began to work on a DVD for my parents that documents her life. A friend of mine recommended Double D Productions as he knew the owner, Dan Dascoli, personally. I spoke to Dan for the first time shortly after Thanksgiving.
Dan explained over the phone that it would cost $3 per photo. Since I had 100 photos, it would be $300 dollars. He asked that I send the photos along with text and songs to his PO box. I agreed to this on the condition that this would be done before I move to Texas in Mid-late January.
Being the end of Novemeber, Dan agreed to this deadline and I sent him the information. Soon after I sent the documents, I called Dan to ensure that he received it. As his main buisness is Weddings, I graciously suggested that he may postpone my project until after the holidays - as long as it is done before I leave for Texas.
After Christmas I called him again to touch base. At this point he asked me when I would be moving. I told him that I would be leaving on January 20. Then he asked me for my address in Texas and said he would send it there when it is completed.
I told him that this was unnacceptable as I asked for it to be done before I left. He said it wouldnot be posible as his editor was on vacation and when he returned, he had other projects that took priority over mine. I told him to confer with his editor (when he got back from vacation) and then let me know when my project could be completed.
Well, he never called me back. At this point, I sought alternatives. Luckily I was able to complete my project by the sencond week of January (one week after I spoke to Dan).
I called Dan after I had completed my project and informed him via voicemail that I no longer required his services. He called me later that day and demanded that I call his editor and explain to him what happened. Again, being gracious, I agreed. Twuce I attempted to call the editor; however, the phone rang and no voicemail was available.
I left Dan another voicemail explaining my dissatisfaction with his company and the way I was treated as a customer. I also told him that if anything needed to be said to his editor, he could tell him.
The next morning he called me and left the following message:
"You don't give someone a project before the holidays and then put a deadline on it. It's over for us but it's going to end up on your credit file for three years. So its not over for you! You need to call the number I gave you and tell the guy why you don't want him to finish your project! Thank you."
First of all, I am the customer! He is the business. It is not my responsibility to give a business a project and let them complete it on their schedule. If he was unable to meet he deadline, he should never have taken the project on.
I am aware that he cannot take any legal action against me as we never had a contract, I never provided any finaincial information to him, he did not meet the agreed upon deadline and most importantly, the project was not completed. However, I feel very threated and harrased by him and his behavior.
My family has been put through enough pain to have to deal with him! I ended up getting the project done for $100 - that is 1/3 the price he quoted me and the quality was exceptional!
Buyer beware - use Double D Promotions only if you don't mind being yelled at and having to wait 5 years for your finished product!
