Novemeber 2006
Two very nice, freindly, well dressed "College Students" came to my door in Ventura, CA. I usually don't buy from door solicitors, but they were very NICE and 'polished' Selling magazine subsriptions (which were high priced) but under the guise that this was to help send them to college - a fund raiser. Students were local seeming; a male caucasian and female african-american asaid they wer 18 years old. Spoke of local colleges, the male related to me that he was from an area that I had just moved from... Et al - freindly/personable/salemanship. They suggested I donate a subscription to local school., but I opted not to. Bought a gift subscription for my daughter for Xmas 2006 - paid $60.30. Wrote personal check.
Dec no subscription. Called the number given and kept getting a machine saying "Atlantis Sales" left messages, tono avial.
Jan - No magazine. Called same number, no machine now - just rings busy continually. A fast busy singal as if disconnected. Went to my cancelled check record and see the bank they cashed check to - was US Bank NA (LAX) Portland OR. Check was cashed the day after written. No hint of FLordia address that is on receipts. No internet records of this company! Found one report online of a consumer in AZ that felt frauded by same type of deal.
