I received a $25 Simons Mall Gift card from my employer in May. I thought it was a gift card that needed to be used in their malls, which I don't get to often. So, I waited until recently to use it.
I tried using the gift card at a store in one of the Simons Malls on Dec. 7. I was told the gift card is invalid. I called the 800 number on the card and was told that the card expired in November although I never used it. After 6 months, they deduct $2.50 monthly from the card, thus reducing its value. The customer service reps at a call center in India were unhelpful and refused to issue me a replacement card event thought my employer paid $25 for a card that was not used. They claim that I should have known all the rules about service charges and expiration on the tiny print that comes with the card. I told them that Massachusetts has a state law that requires merchants to accept gift certificates for up to 7 years after issuance. They did not care about this and were unhelpful. I am filing a report with the Mass. Attorney General's Office.
I urge everyone to avoid purchasing Simons Mall Gift Cards. They are a complete ripoff.
