My name is John and I hired a man named Jim Stanley to widen and pave my driveway. However I did not get what I paid for, I got a half a driveway and am going to be out more money because I have to hire another contractor to fix the mess.
Jim Stanly gave me an estimate of $2500 to widen and pave my driveway, which entailed brush and grass removal, removal of old hardtop, a new layer of gravel and a new layer of hardtop. My wife gave the man the down payment $1250 in a personal check, after he refused the Cashiers Check from the bank because it was made out to the company instead of him. He was supposed to hold the check until the next day when I gave him the new Cashiers check. I havent seen him since.
Mr. Stanley widened the driveway and left 6 yards of debris in street infront of my home. He arrived without the gravel and proper equipment to flatten the asphalt. When asked about the stone and equipment, he told me that "he was going to use the concrete debris for the gravel and that he was waiting to hear where his roller was." I told him "he was not going to use the debris because when the ground freezes it would push back up through the asphalt."
When he didn't come back the next day, I called his office and left messages. He never called back. I tried to stop payment on my wife's personal check only to discover that he had already cashed it. All I want is retribution whether its a completed driveway up to code, all of my money back, or for him to pay to have someone else do it correctly.
My wife runs a daycare from our home and it is increasingly difficult for the parents to try and walk on the mess which is my driveway.
