Equipment Lies Misconception Ripoff

Had dish network for 3 years, sold house in Oklahoma, moved back to California. The new owners requested equipment stay with house, called dish network, provided new owners info.

Closed account, relocated to Califonia, got a collection notice today for 1,029.00 for equipment.

Is this legal?
