Complaint / Review
Rockland International
Ripoff dishonest fraudulent scam company

I saw the job in Monster, but it also appears in Career Builder, and applied. Two hours later I received this email:
Rockland International, Inc.
to me, May 25

Thank you for your recent resume submission. We pride ourselves on our very selective screening process.
Our candidates are hand picked by management based on a few important areas, education and or experience,
personal presentation, and personality. After reviewing your resume, our management staff has decided that you are qualified in the areas of education and experience for one of our Account Manager positions.

Unfortunately personal presentation and personality are not things you can find on a resume. Thus, our management staff would like to extend an invitation for a one on one interview. We welcome the opportunity to discuss in detail your qualifications and where you stand in the future of this company.

As you are aware, the job market is very competitive. Your promptness to our response is of the utmost importance as we are considering many candidates and have only a short amount of time to interview them.
Please contact us at (248)-733-1973 during the hours of 8am 4pm, as soon as possible to ensure that we will have an opportunity to meet with you. Just a reminder, please have your schedule for the next few days ready when you call.

Interviews are 20-25 minutes in duration. If you are unable to make it for an interview for our normal interview hours of 10:00am to 2:00pm please inform us right away so we can make accommodations.

Directions to our office are attached below, if needed.

Sincerely,

Regina Bourcier
Screening & Processing
Rockland International Inc

A couple of hours later, Regina called me for an interview the following day. She informed me that the dress was "Business Professional".

I arrived to a tiny office to find out that the "Screening and Processing" lady from Human Resources, Regina was the receptionist as well. Red Flag.

Andy (who didn't mention his last name) was the "President and Director of Accounts" Interviewed me for the 20 minutes. He hardly care about my prior experience as an Account Executive or Manager, or anything. He didn't care about my education either.

All what he wanted to do, was tell me how great Rockland is, the company background and bla, bla, bla. He used 15 minutes of the interview to give me a very articulated speech about the company.

On the biggest Marketing companies
Selling advertising to B2B for AT&T, because "they are too busy to that themselves". Michigan is almost "a virgin territory" and this is an "expanding niche that I discovered" (???). We are opening 35 offices in the Midwest area.
We'll train you, and you succeed in sales, we want you to work in H.R. Recruiting and trainning new candidates. Then we will train you to succeed in a Management position with our company. Then you'll have the opportunity to be relocated by the company to start your own Branch, recruit your team and expand Rockland Int.inc.

I asked about the sales team, "twenty people, they are in the field most of the day, work in teams, and then push all paperwork. There was no other office than the reception area/human resources and Andy's office. Andy's office could not accomodate 20 people, and I guess all of them would share Andy's computer.

He closed the interview saying that he had other interviews. Then he was going to review all the resumes or "it wouldn't be fear to the other candidates", and call "only those candidates selected for the second interview". He said they would call between 2-2.30 P.M.

I asked him for a catalog or printed information to learn more about the company. There was nothing available at the moment.

I asked him for his business card, so I could send a "Thank you note" (I guess for waisting my time and gasoline), but Andy didn't have a Business card (???).

At 2 P.M. I received Regina's phone call. She informed me, that Andy and her reviewed all the resumes and I was selected among 20 other candidates for the second interview.

It was going to be a "Field trip" from 9. A. M to 5 P.M. New candidates usually go with a sales person, but given my "notorious experience" Andy was willing invest his precious time in taking Me, to show me how the job gets done in Rockland.By the way, I was the one supposed to drive him around all day! Then Regina said: "How does tomorrow look like?"

I have worked for over ten years in Southamerica for real company that sell services and had never ever seen something so sloppy and full of bull.

A receptionist/"Screening and Processing"/ Human Resources that team works with a company's president to select an Account Manager / Accounts Director?
A President that does not even have a business card?
A company without any business presentation material to offer?
A company desperate to have a candidate going for a full day "field trip"?

Thanks, but No!

I am not going to say DO NOT WORK for them.
But it was the least professional business setting and interview I've ever had.

At that point I was almost curious to see what he was going to show me. But I'd rather attend a real job interview, or continue to look for one.
