Cellular One, Unicel Misrepresented their "Contracts" Big time!

I was a customer with cellular one for more than 15 years, eventually ending up with 3 phones. Never did have very adequate service and they changed companies every time we turned around with one deal or another. Finally, after 6 months of complaining to them repeatedly that one of the phones still didn't work right (this after it had been "repaired" 2 times.

I said if they couldn't get us a replacement phone I was dropping our account. This was in July, in October I went into the local store, because I had a co-worker with an extra phone from Cellular one that she didn't want to keep who offered it to me. We went to the store after she had talked with their representative who said that we could do this, no problem, well it was a totally different story when we got there.

Now it was I would have to finish paying on her contract, then I would be allowed to switch it to my plan, while she would have to pay a penalty for cancelling her service early. She was just married and moving out of the area where they don't have service, but that didn't matter. Needless to say she kept the phone and just kept paying her contract which was less than they would charge her for leaving early.

I told them then I was leaving, that I would not be continuing with a company that cheated left and right, that's when I was told I had to give them 30 days notice, I said it was my notice and left the store.in Novemeber we ported our #'s over to a different company and I called Unicel the next day to inform them we were done.

The Customer service clerk said I couldn't do that we had to give them notice, I told her I already did and it was a done deal. I also asked to speak with a supervisor and she said that they would have to call me back - you guessed it not a word from them just bills. I sent the bills back with letters attached and now I have been turned over to collections! Anybody have any suggestions? I really don't want to give them more money, because then they just keep getting away with their unethical practice.
