Southeastern Freight Lines
Overcharged on shipping, changed shipping weight, changed shipping class, billed higher than shipping quotes ripoff

Southeastern freight lines was shipping the same products for us, for over a year. Everytime we received shipping bills from them, we had to contact customer service to get them corrected. We would ship a product to one of their freight terminal for customer pickup and they would sometimes bill us for residential delivery. Residential dilevery is a lot more than commercial delivery. They fixed those after all the agrivation we had to go through to get them corrected so we could pay.

December I received a bill on a product I shipped most everyday with them. They changed the weight from 209 lbs to 380. This is a 50cc atv. It actually weighed a little less than 209 lbs. Their terminal manager Marty claimed he would have a unit picked up and weighed so he would have something to use as proof of weight. He said just give him the word. I told him to get it today. They never did.

I received weight changes on another product that we shipped almost daily. This product I always rated at 280 lbs, which is was a little less. They re-rated and charge me for 380 lbs one time, 365 lbs another time and 360 lbs another time. It is odd they shipped hundreds of these units and the weights on these identical units were different. Much different. Not to mention these "certified scale" weights were not the same all the time.

Which is it? 380,365, 360 or is it like the other hundreds of units 280 lbs or less. 2 units they changed the weight class on. Have shipped these units according to freight specs at class 100 for a few years. The re-rated them at class 150 which also increases the charges. This one is my favorite. Southeastern Freight Lines gave me a rate quote on a product of 86.93. They billed me 94.16.

Why I asked the customer service after they told me they could not correct it. They said that is not one of our direct service points (SE owned area). My rate quote that I have says "Direct". Even though they rated it at 86.93 and they did not increase the weight or class, they said they could not correct it because it was not a direct Southeastern Freight area.

I have another one, the Decatur Alabama terminal manager Marty said he would try to get credited. They lost a shipment, told me to go ahead and reship to my customer, then delivered the lost shipment 2 days after the new shipment delivered. My customer had 2 products for the price of one. Good old "I'm goona" Marty was gonna contact the customer and take care of for me. Well you guessed it! He never did.

Took me 6 months and threatening the customer with legal action to get paid. Marty stated in Feb he would try to get this credited as well as assist me with these others and call me back in a couple of days. That was over 2 months ago, still nothing. Ron in corporate claimed he could not correct any of these, they were correct and their "certified scales" were correct. Maybe so, but the guy weighing them is not suppose to stand on the scales while weighing. Not only did Ron not help, but until yesterday 4/18/06 I had not idea what he had done. He not only turned these what I feel to be fraudulent bills into the credit agency, he turned all of my current bills into the credit agency.

Just so you will know*I already paid the shipping on these products they misbilled me on. I only paid what our agreement was and not a penny less and not a penny more. Now they have on my credit a collection of $1400.

What kind of business is this. Am I stuck in the 6th grade or is this real. A US company in the United States does business this way? I had been paying EVERYTHING accept what they had overbilled me for. I was still doing business with them. Because they could not solve my problem. They immediately haulted my bills and turned me into the collection agency.

Since February, I have used OTHER shipping companies. Guess what NO BILLING PROBLEMS.By the way, I will pay those current statments they would not send me. I just will not pay any incorrect overcharges unless they show me proof of the certified scales with a time stamped photo of the products being weighed. 1 year and 4 months and they never corrected. Even talked with one of the owners of the company Mr. Castle. If I were Mr Castle, I would change my business practices and be more customer oriented. My company spends approx $150,000 to $200,000 a year in "shipping". Their overbilling was less than $300.

You do the math.
