I have found myself in a financial bind, unable to make my cc payments. Signed up for credit protection just for such an occasion 3-4 years ago when I got my card (in the event you are unable to make your payments, credit protection will be there for you.) What they don't tell you, is that you have to qualify for it. Qualify to use the money YOU have put in for protection!
My huband has been out of work for most of the year (but I still managed to make my payments), I have been unemployed for 8 years, tried to start my own business when I got hit with zoning changes in the last election, so I have no income now; and now I find out that my mother has been diagnosed with brain tumors and I'm the oldest, so now I have to find a lawyer to find out what my responsibilities are in her "intestate" situation. If this doesn't qualify for emergency assistance, for which I've paid more than enough for over the last few years, I don't know what does. On their automated system, "other life events" were listed as qualifying events for activating "credit protection" services, but when I talked to the agent, she said there was no such thing, and I didn't qualify for unemployment protection because I was self-employed. But that, too, was an option.
