I like filling out surveys. One came to assess how stamps.com sign up process is. No risk involved 30 day free trial period.
I signed up and downloaded the program on dec 19. Tried to install the program-it failed so I could not complete even the survey and thought I'm ok.
Jan 19 a charge from stamps.com shows up on my bank statement. They charged my credit card $15.99 recurring monthly fee.
I called the 1-888-434-0055 number. 15 minutes of bad music and sad advertising later no answer. Called the following day same story this time I held for 27 minutes. The day after, ditto for 45 minutes.
I e-mailed them demanding that they close my account. Answer was that they are affiliated with the United States Postal Services, a Federal agency, therefore they must confirm my identity before they can cancel the account-I must call to cancel. Bull crap I said you did not need my identity at all to open the account in the first place: it was opened on line with no talking at all!
3 e-mails later - they kept on sending back the standard reply letter no matter what I said - i decided to cool off and try again.
The following week I tried again. Needless to say same story no matter what time morning, lunch, afternoon or night for that matter (you have to call between 6 am and 6 pm PST) you get nobody to answer the phone. I called my bank. They said that since Stamps.com has by visa card number they can do nothing to prevent charges against it. I had to close my account.
Placed a complaint with the better business bureau. After much humming around and lies "we always answer our phone" some mucky muck agreed to refund the $15.99. Case closed right? Wrong. I am yet to see my money back.
Do not get involved with this company no matter how convenient it may seem $15.99 a month just to have access to this oh so wonderful tool is equivalent to 41 stamps. Having to cancel your bank account is a major hassle. Having to deal with their BS replies to the BBB is very very aggravating neeedless to say my time is money and I spent well over 3.5 hours on hold! (Only consolation I have is that it was on their dime not mine) Latest I see is they are offering "free" scales too now. Beware Beware Beware I got off relatively easy.
