After multiple false alarms, poor customer service, and worthless service - I called to terminate my service with Guardian. I inherited the system from the previous owner, and Guardian pressured him to give them my information. They told me that I had to assume his service agreement, and so I agreed because I needed to close on the house.
The system never worked properly and they used my emergency contact information to try and sell their service. And false alarms will cost you even if it is a problem with the internal system in your house.
I called customer service and they agreed to cancel my service because I was very upset. They asked me to fax over something in writing to confirm that I wanted to cancel, which I did.
The bills and invoices stopped, and I no longer used their service. 5 months later I received a letter from Mary Freemen in the Collections Department stating that they are trying to collect on the remaining months of the terminated agreement. I called to contest, but Mary was not available. The Customer Service agent said that Mary would call me back to discuss, but she never did. Nobody seemed to care, and they kept directing me to voice mail.
Another 5 months later, I received a notice from a debt collecting attorney. I called Guardian again to try and work this out, but they will no longer speak to me about my account.
Now they are suing me for the $1,322.35 (53 months of service) and they will not provide security for my home. They just want my money, not even my business.
I have asked if I pay them for this 53 months of service, would they ensure the security of my home for those months that I am paying. They said that all of my dealings with them would have to go through their attorney. Their attorney said that he would get back to me, but he never did. My additional phone calls were not returned.
READ THE FINE PRINT. Front and back! This contract is written to protect Guradian Security, not the homeowner. They take RESPONSIBILITY for nothing - not to even to call the if you have an emergency. If you actually have time to read through it, I bet that very few people would feel comfortable entering into a 5 year agreement. But the service guy will ask you to just sign it, because he is right there breathing down your neck - ready to go onto the next victim.
They are a middle-man company that does nothing the ensure the security of their customers homes. You can get a security system at Radio Shack that will do much better. If a burgular wanted to break into your home, he would cut the phone line. The security company would be none the wiser because they would never get the call that your alarm was going off.
On a weekly basis I hear home alarms going off in my neighborhood, and never once have I though that someone's home is being broken into. I have never heard or seen police respond to one of these alarms.
They do not stand behind their product. Any service call, even on programming your alarm will cost you $65 per hour. After they walk out that door for the first time, you are on your own from there.
I highly suggest that everyone find alternate means of security.invest in motion detection lights, a fence, or a dog. Speak to your neighbors because they are the ones that are going to be around if something were to happen to your home.
Guardian International is a rip off and I am telling everyone I know that their service is worthless. If you are going to ensure the security of your home, I can guarantee that this company will do nothing for your cause that you can't do yourself.
