I paid Moving Services to move my items in a 20 ft container from Tucson, AZ to Manta, Ecuador. The quote that Victor Dominguez gave me was $5657. I paid that amount. I was told this was accurate and that there would be no more costs.
They had my items picked up and sent to LA. When it got to LA, I was told that I owed $2,607.00. I told them that I was told $5657 was the final amount and tried to get VD on the phone to confirm that. They would not let me speak to him. When I was able to get him on the phone by giving a false name to the phone attendant, he always hung up on me. They told me to pay the 2,607.00 or I would start accruing storage fees. I had no other option as I did not have a binding contract.
When my items finally did arrive to Guayaquil I learned that there were all kinds of fees that were not paid for. I called moving services to have them take care it and they told me there filed for backruptcy and couldn't help me. They told me to submit a claim and wait in line. I ended up paying over $3000 to cover the fees and to get the container to Manta.
The individuals who lied to me throughout this process were: Carmen Castellano, Victor Dominguez, and Taylor Rasted. My guess is that they are out there under a different name. If so, be very aware and DO NOT use their services. If you do, be prepared to be ripped off and know that there is nothing you can do. Either pay what they tell you to pay or start accruing fees. Getting ripped off on moving services is very common and you will get ripped off if you don't educate yourself. Go with a well-known company. They quote may be higher, but they are fairly accurate.
If you are planning a move, try to get a binding contract to prevent this from happening.
