They started calling my cell phone about a week and a half ago. I ignored the calls but this 001819 kept coming up on my phone 2 to 3 times daily. I picked up the phone 3 days ago and spoke to a woman who seems to have an accent (my guess would be an Indian accent). She told me she was from Advantage America and she received my number through the department of research. She told me if I filed for my taxes for last year I was eligible to receive a $15,000.00 grant from the government. A $15,000 grant from the government for paying my taxes!!??
Then she told me I had to pay $49.95 for some type of process so that I may receive the grant. (RED FLAG) I asked if I could have her name and she said No. (BIG RED FLAG) Then I asked why can't she tell me her name, and then she went on and said she was from Advantage America in Winter Park Florida and asked me to pay $49.95 to get my $15,000 grant. (A BIGGER RED FLAG) After that I said to her, quote NO, take me off your list and do not call me ever again. The woman replied There is no list, and NO I will not stop calling you. (THE BIGGEST RED FLAG EVER) We went on to argue of the phone back and forth.
With no embellishing, the argument went like this,
Stop calling me! I said
NO she replied
I am going to report this if you keep calling me! I said
NO, I will not stop calling you, and I will keep calling you! She replied
Take me off your list and don't ever call again! I said
NOOOOOOO! She replied.
She then hung up the phone on me. About a couple of hours latter they called again. Since then they keep calling my phone 4-6 times a day. I tell them to stop calling and she keeps yelling NOOOOO! And hanging up the phone.
I reported it to the FTC and the phone company. The phone company said the call was made over seas (the woman did have an Indian accent) and they can't trace it any further but they will be investigated. The next step right now is a police report.
By the way, I could not help noticing the large volume of Advantage America complaints in September, especially with the 2 hurricanes that created a tremendous financial loss for the victims. I know I would be glad to hear I was getting a $15,000 grant after what happened after hurricanes Katrina or Rita.
Please warn your family and friends. DO NOT GIVE ANYTHING TO Advantage America. THIS IS A SCAM
Advantage America IS A SCAM!
Advantage America IS A SCAM!
