Received call from a man who had a very thick Indian accent. He told me that he was calling from the U.S. Government Grant Dept. And that the U.S. Government had chosen me to receive a free $12500 grant that I did not have to pay back.
All I had to do was answer a few questions like had I filed for bankrupcy in last 6 months and did I pay my taxes on time. Then all I needed to do was to provide them with my checking account number so the check could be deposited directly there. When I told the man that I could not understand what he was saying, he put another man on, with less of an accent. He told me gave me their 800 number - 855-503-7345.
I called that, and they said they were Advantage America, and not a government agency as the first man said, and that they were taking checking account numbers so they could charge me $49.95 or maybe it was $14.95 (couldn't understand her) for a booklet on U.S. Government grants. They don't accept credit cards there.
This seems like a real scam to me. Who knows how much they will charge to my credit card.
They were supposed to call me back after I checked their customer service number, but of course, did not.
